Introduction • Some of the most exciting and interesting musicians from the Americas have gathered to pay tribute to the culture, artists and composers of the most distant country in South America: CHILE. • The band celebrate the work of important icons that made Chile one of the greatest cultural capitals in the American Continent. • Nobel Prize Poets such as Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistra, composers such as Victor Jara and Violeta Parra, fusion bands such as LOS JAIVAS and ILLAPU are revisited with original arrangements by Patricia Zarate and pianist Nando Michelin. • The band features Mili Bermejo on voice, Patricia Zarate on saxophone, Dan Greenspan on bass, Nando Michelin on piano & Francisco “Pancho” Molina on drums.

Its repertoire mixed classic Nueva Cancion work by Victor Jara and Violeta Parra with radically revamped music by the Chilean pro-rock band Los Jaivas. The music’s extended harmony and breezy, ornate melodies were shaped with exquisite care and lack of saccharine lyricism. Vocalist Mili Bermejo, long a fixture at Berklee College, beguiled the audience. This promising project brings music and lyrics to the poetry and such noted latinAmerican masters as Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral. The beautifully complimentary arrangements are from the pen of the group’s alto saxophonist Patricia Zarate. Noted Chilean rock drummer Francisco Molina neately transition to the subtleties of Zarate’s arrangements and Bermejo’s sublimely seasoned voice; bassist Dan Greenspan and pianist Nando Michelin rounded out the band. Mili Bermejo (Voice) For more than two decades, Boston-based jazz vocalist/composer and Berklee faculty Mili Bermejo has transcended the borders between cultures and musical genres. Her voice blends the authentic Latin American poetry/folk with jazz improvisation. Critics have called her "the Latin equivalent of Abbey Lincoln...a singer/composer who challenges us with her musical honesty" (Cadence) and described her inclusive sound as "part poetry- folk, part Sarah Vaughn sophistication" (Boston Magazine) and the place "where jazz meets Latin with elegance and soul" (Boston Globe). Dan Greenspan (Acoustic Bass) Jazz bassist Dan Greenspan has toured the world with renowned musicians and has played with different bands for more than 30 years making himself one of the top bass players in the jazz world today. His immense sound and careful technique adjusts to every musical situation he has been in, and his knowledge of Latin American music has made him a leader in the Latin American jazz movement. His works with Mili Bermejo have been very important in the development of the new generation of musicians that blend jazz with South American music. Nando Michelin (Piano) After a very successful career in his homeland Uruguay, Michelin came to Boston attracted by Berklee College of Music where he continued developing his skills as a piano player and composer. His music has received wide acclaim by the press, among other publications, Jazz Times called his recording ART "an ear-grabbing gallery of breath-taking originals" . Currently he teaches at Brookline Music School, and Tufts University. Patricia Zarate (Saxophone) Berklee Alumni Patricia Zarate began playing saxophone at age 13 in Santiago, Chile. She moved to the US in 1995 to study music therapy, ethnomusicology, jazz performance and composition. She was awarded the Alberto Vilar Fellowship For The Performing Arts to study jazz performance and composition at New York University and have performed as a freelance musician with different bands in events such as the Habana Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, San Salvador Jazz Festival, New England Video and Film Festival, among others. Some of her private saxophone and music instructors include Jackie McLean, Jerry Bergonzi, and James Moody. Francisco ”Pancho”Molina (Drums) Latin American Rock Star & Berklee Alumni Francisco Molina started his career at an early age in Concepcion, Chile. He was one of the founders of the most important Chilean rock band of the 90’s: Los Tres.He has been awarded platinum record 5 times for different recordings with Los Tres in Chile and México. Have performed in events such as FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE VIÑA DEL MAR, he did the first MTVunplugged Latino in Miami Fl. with Los Tres and won double platinum for that live recording. He has toured extensively with Los Tres and his own musical projects all over the world. He works as a freelance rock and a jazz drummer with different bands in the Greater Boston Area.

Musicos Mili Bermejo (Voz) Por más de dos decadas, la jazzista vocalista/compositora y profesora del prestigioso Berklee College of Music en Boston Mili Bermejo, ha trascendido las divisiones culturales y también los generos musicales. Su voz mezcla el auténtico sentir de la poesía de la música folk de America Latina con la improvisación del Jazz. Entre los críticos especializados de USA, se ha ganado el título del equivalente latino a ”Abbey Lincoln…una cantante/compositora que desafía con su honestidad musical¨ (Cadence Magazine) y describen su sonido: “envolvente como parte poesía folclórica, parte como la sofisticación de Sara Vaughan” (Boston Magazine) y también “la persona que combina el Jazz y el Latin con elegancia y espíritu” (Boston Globe). Dan Greenspan (Bajo Acústico) Dan Greenspan ha recorrido el mundo con renombrados músicos de jazz y diferentes agrupaciones por más de 30 años, convirtíendose en uno de los bajistas top del mundo. Su inmenso sonido y depurada técnica marca su gran versatilidad, además su conocimiento de la música Latino Americana lo ha convertido en un líder del movimiento del Jazz-LatinoAmericano de USA. Junto a Mili Bermejo su trabajo ha sido fundamental para la nueva generación de músicos que mezclan el Jazz con Música Sud-Americana. Nando Michelin (Piano) Después de una destacada carrera musical en su Uruguay natal, Michelin viajó a Boston atraído por Berklee College of Music donde continuo desarrollando sus conocimientos como compositor y pianista.Su música ha sido aclamada por la prensa especializada, entre algunos comentarios: Jazz Times magazine comento de su disco ART ”originales que cautivan el oído y sacan el aliento”. El es profesor del Brookline Music School, y Tufts University en Boston, Massachusetts Patricia Zarate (Saxofón alto & Arreglos) Egresada de Berklee Colluege of Music y Master en composición en la prestigiosa universidad de Nueva York NYU. Francisco ”Pancho”Molina (Drums) Reconocido Artista del Rock Latino Americano & Berklee College of Music graduado. Francisco Molina comienza su carrera en su natal ciudad de Concepción, Chile a la edad de 11 años. El es uno de los fundadores de la más importatne banda de Rock Chilena de los 90 “Los Tres”. Artista exclusivo de Sony Music por 8 años recibió más de 6 discos de Platino por record de ventas en Chile y México. Junto a LOS TRES grabo el primer show MTVunplugged latino en la ciudad de Miami FL. Molina ha tocado en los festivales y eventos más importantes de Latino America y Estados Unidos entre ellos el “FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE VIÑA DEL MAR”. Además de toures en Europa, USA y Latino America como músico de Jazz y Rock con diferentes agrupaciones.

DownBeat Magazine Abril 20th, 2007 Tan Buena cómo los otros grupos del festival de Panama es The Unforgiven South Americanos, encabezada por la cantante Mili Bermejo y la saxofonista Patricia Zarate. Su repertorio combina clásicos de la Nueva Canción de Victor Jara y Violeta Parra junto a radicales arreglos a la música de la banda Rock-Progresivo “Los Jaivas”. Las extendidas y aereadas harmonias y las sofisticadas melodias de la música son moldeadas con exquisito cuidado y emoción. La banda integrada por Dan Greespan en bajo, el pianista Uruguayo Nando Michelin junto al baterista Chileno Francsico Molina se encargaron de mantener la música con caracter, dirijiendo las bellas melodias al corazón, con mucha consistencia y habilidad en la improvisación. -Peter Margasak
